This course is aimed at PhD-Students who would like to acquire a good working knowledge of Deformation Theory.
Speaker
The course will be taught by Prof. Jan Christophersen who is currently a visitor at the University of Mainz.
Schedule
There will be a two hour lecture from 10 till 12 a.m. (!!Time has changed!!) After the course there will be plenty of time to discuss the material of the course in small groups and work out exercises. From 4 to 5 p.m. we will have a question session with the speaker where we can either discuss the exercises or ask additional questions.
To quote Hartshorne, this course is made for "active learning".
Prerequisites
A working knowledge of the basic objects in Algebraic Geometry is assumed. It is also recommended to look through the notes availabe at Robin Hartshorne's homepage along with the introductory chapter and the appendices of Sernesi's book "Deformations of Algebraic Schemes". A preliminary version of the book can be found on his website in pdf-format.
Application
An application form is available here. We have room for about 30 people. Full financial support is available for members of the SFB/TR 45. There is limited support for other participants as well.
Location
The course will take place at the Mathematical Institue of the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Staudinger Weg 9 in room 04-432.
